A micro-health insurance scheme plays a vital role in the GK's health program. Since many rural target groups of GK are neither aware of their health care needs and health services nor are willing to pay for the services, a very innovative micro-health insurance scheme has been devised by the Grameen Kalyan to bring them under the coverage of its health care services. Through its mobilization efforts for the enrollment of the rural people in this micro-health insurance scheme, Grameen Kalyan is ensuring not their participation in the scheme and their utilization of its health services, but also the recovery of the costs of the services, ensuring their sustainability. The scheme also uses a form of sliding scale in fee structure, enabling the very poor to utilize the health services. A non-Grameen member pays a slightly higher premium and renewal fee than that of a Grameen member.

Enabled by its micro-health insurance scheme, Grameen Kalyan is providing sustainable and quality health services to the less privileged and vulnerable sections of the rural populations of rural Bangladesh. It is providing community-based primary, secondary, and tertiary health services at lower prices than those of the market prices. It is also providing a safety net for those who cannot pay for their health services and, thus, ensuring access to its services by the poor and the vulnerable.
